FAQ & House Guidelines

Oak trees, boulders and a stone-edged pond on the Alpine Castle grounds at sunset

A few things to know before you come.

The castle is our home. These guidelines help every visit go well, for you, for us, and for our neighbors.

Booking

How many guests can you host?

Private dinners, brunches, and private days are usually for 10 to 30 guests. Overnight stays sleep a small group of roughly 6 to 10.

Can we come with fewer than 10?

Dining experiences have a minimum of 10 guests, though smaller groups are welcome to ask, for occasions such as a small working group, an intimate anniversary, or a proposal. Smaller groups are welcome for short-term stays. Just mention your interests when you inquire.

Is my booking private?

Yes. We host one private group at a time. One person books for the whole party, invites their own guests, and serves as our single point of contact. We don’t sell individual seats or tickets, and we don’t host public or ticketed occasions.

Do you host weddings?

We don’t host weddings or receptions. We’d be glad to host a proposal, a rehearsal dinner, or a shower.

Can I see a menu or price list?

Every meal is planned for the group in front of us, and we collaborate with you on your food preferences, so your menu takes shape once we’ve talked. We don’t publish prices. Once we know your date, group size, and occasion, we’ll send a proposal.

Is there a deposit?

Yes. Every booking includes a damage deposit, and payment terms are spelled out in your written agreement.

Overnight stays

Can we stay overnight?

Yes. Overnight stays are available by advance reservation, subject to availability. We book one private group at a time, and the bedrooms comfortably sleep a small group of roughly 6 to 10 people with 3 private bedrooms, each with its own private bath, and 2 additional shared bedrooms.

Do stays come with meals?

Stays are for lodging only. If you’d like a meal while you’re here, breakfast, lunch, and dinner can be prepared in the castle’s licensed home kitchen for your group, arranged separately from your stay. Beer and wine are served with meals only.

Can we bring extra guests?

Please come with only the guests named in your booking, and keep overnight guests to the number agreed. We’re glad to accommodate where we can, but we have specific requirements we must follow. Unannounced extra guests will most likely be turned away. If we mutually agree to welcome an additional guest, an extra charge will apply.

Are there quiet hours?

Yes. The castle settles into quiet hours at 10 PM each evening.

Food & drink

Who prepares the food?

Everything is prepared in the castle’s own licensed home kitchen. We collaborate with you on your food preferences and any dietary needs, including gluten-free and other special dietary considerations.

Do you serve alcohol?

We serve beer and wine with meals only. We don’t serve spirits, and there’s no bar.

Getting here

Where is the castle?

In the hills of Alpine, in East San Diego County, about 30 to 35 minutes from downtown San Diego. We share directions once your booking is confirmed.

Is there parking?

Parking on the property is limited to five cars, so please carpool where you can. Additional spots are available upon request, and larger groups may require a shuttle. We’re happy to help you work out the details.

House guidelines

For the full list, please read our Guest Guidelines.

Will the hosts be there?

Yes. This is our home, and your hosts will be in the house and around the property throughout your visit, happy to help wherever we can.

How much privacy will we have?

The castle is a home shared with your group, and your hosts will be in the house and around the property, so please don’t expect complete privacy. You’ll have your table, your bedrooms, and your time together, and we host only one private group at a time.

Anything we should know about arriving and leaving?

We’re in a quiet residential area. Please keep it quiet when you arrive and leave, especially in the evening. There’s no amplified music outdoors.

Anything else?

We’re in fire country, so no fireworks or open flames outdoors. Indoor fireplaces are lit only by your hosts. Please treat the home with care. It’s one of a kind, and we live here.

We’re happy to talk anything through before you book.
